Sport Fishing in New Caledonia

Saltwater Fishing
Sport fishing in New Caledonia , in particular bonefishing, seems to have been forgotten by many specialised fishing books around the world.
It is however a certainty that New Caledonia shelters far top end north of territory, many vast flats, reefs and channels where sport's fish are many.

Bonefishing
Bones are not observed in big « school » but more often in group of two or three, or otherwise loner when they are big.
The average weight is around 5-7lbs. 10 lbs are not rare. Melanesian even talk about fishes reaching 1 metre long and 15-17 weight. Wading fishing and guided.
Due to wind conditions and strength of the fishes, 9wt or 10wt fly rod and large arbor fly reel are recommended.
